NARRATION BOX: Du Fu PANEL 1: A NYX, an alien with a crest and rhino-like horn, peers into a room where THE GOVERNOR sits in an easy-chair in front of a fireplace, feet up on a stool, glass of wine in hand. NYX: This onyx will have apologized to the governor for the late interruption. GOVERNOR: Come in, my friend! YES-YES-YES! Your new batch of “Tinto de Verano” is a DELIGHT! PANEL 2: Close up on the NYX, as he continues. NYX: This nyx will have detected an unscheduled drive ship within the system. But the signal will have been transitory. Will have been lost. The leap will have been well-placed between moons, to avoid triangulation. PANEL 3: Close up on the GOVERNOR. GOVERNOR: Oh no! No-no-no! CONTINUUM?!? Quickly: call the Armada and forward them your data. PANEL 4: The GOVERNOR starts to get up. GOVERNOR: I’ll find my shoes and be right behind you! SFX: HURK! PANEL 5: The GOVERNOR peaks around his chair to see what the NYX said. GOVERNOR: What was that? What did you say? UNKNOWN: I Don’t know that it was discernible, cousin. PANEL 6: In the doorway where the NYX once stood are two giant TESSKANS, humanoid dinosaur-like creatures with blades on their head and tusks. They are very large and muscular, and in between them stands the short EMPEROR. Under one of the feet of the TESSKANS you can see the crest of the NYX. THE GOVERNOR is in the foreground, still in his chair. EMPEROR: But then, some things in life aren’t IMMEDIATELY DISCERNIBLE, are they? No-no-no. ——— Want 5,000 more comics like this? hey neat!

…DRIVE just got nominated for “Best Long Form Story” in the National Cartoonist Society Awards!

And to make things even more fun: It’s up against two cartoonists who I’d be proud to lose to! So that’ll make for a fun night in Jersey City!

I think I’ll make a trip of it with my pal Brad Guigar….so! That means I’ll probably do my first east-coast signing in 15 years! Would any NYC/Jersey/Connecticut/Pennsylvania folks come out, if I did that?* More info to come as we get closer to the Sept 7th Awards night!
