PANEL 1: FILIA, with one hand on the staff laying on a table, pokes at a glass screen with his other hand. The screen makes a “DEET DEET DEET” sound. FILIA: I do not understand the machinations at work, here: THIS IS JUST PETRIFIED WOOD! PANEL 2: FILIA stands with his hands on the table, now glowing. The staff interrupts the light streaming up. FILIA: Yet it’s somehow responding to externalities… drawing power from an ambient energy or radio frequency. PANEL 3: From behind FILIA, he looks at a hologram of the staff with boxes of info pointing to it. FILIA: SPIRITS! These scans! This wood has been modified at the genetic level! PANEL 4: FILIA picks the staff up from the table. FILIA: It’s maker be blessed: this is a master-class in organic engineering! PANEL 5: INTENSE close up on FILIA’s face. FILIA: The phytosemiotics of this tree have been TRAINED. Cellular logic gates have been STRUCTURED. This wood was carefully SHAPED into a spirit. One hiding in plain sight.
