PANEL 1: LOCATION: Sasseet A freckled GRASSKAN (a large dinosaur-like humanoid with down-arching horns) knocks on the doorway of CAPTAIN TIL. TIL is sitting under a lamp, reading a book. She wears glasses floating on her dinosaur-like nose. GRASSKAN: Apologies for the interruption, Captain. TIL: Quite alright. I’m just studying our new allies via this “Shakespeare.” Have you read him? PANEL 2: The GRASSKAN stands in silhouette, as TIL takes her glasses off. GRASSKAN: I tried The Taming of the Shrew. Even translated into Tneth, it was baffling. TIL: Don’t blame yourself. The gender politics of that play are…uniquely human. PANEL 3: Very close up on TIL as she receives the news. GRASSKAN (off-panel): On the matter of politics: THE HUMAN EMPEROR IS DEAD. TIL: DEAD!?? PANEL 4: The GRASSKAN continues. GRASSKAN: Our ambassador confirms it, though the details are dubious. There are rumors of a pact between the continuum and the TESSKANS. PANEL 5: The GRASSKAN continues to speak to TIL, sitting under the reading lamp. GRASSKAN: The ambassador notes the rumor, but expresses extreme doubt. TIL: Rightly so. The Continuum never takes allies. PANEL 6: Close up on TIL as she considers. TIL: Still, it explains why La Familia is leaving Saseet in such a panic. I had one SPRINT OUT OF A MEETING mid-sentence. PANEL 7: The GRASSKAN holds his hand up making a point, as TIL thinks, shadowed under the lamp. GRASSKAN: Honestly? Humans can be as confusing as that playwright. TIL: At least Shakespeare provides A GOOD ENDING. In this Empire, we may not be so lucky.
