LOCATION: The Flagship Dionycha of the Center PANEL 1: A two-pronged ship with a split ring on its’ back zooms through space, stars streaking by. From inside the ship: (We) have a fleet update for (you), (Magnificence). PANEL 2: The giant CENTER, a furry spider-creature with sharp fangs and a dozen eyes (and one leg that has been lobbed off), stands next to a HUNTER GANNATH, a smaller furry spider creature with a mask-like face. HUNTER: Following the [vinn] attack, (we’ve) made contact with three surviving dionychas. They seem to be the very last of (our) ships. PANEL 3: The HUNTER GANNATH is joined by a CONSTRUCT, a robot version of a Gannath. HUNTER: But this (construct) has an idea to fix that. CONSTRUCT: THE DORMANT HIVES, (lord). (I) suggest reactivating (our) older, mothballed fleets. PANEL 4: The large CENTER leans to speak to the CONSTRUCT. CENTER: But how? (I) have only a remnant of (hunters). CONSTRUCT: If (you) gave the (constructs) access to a mineral-rich asteroid, (we) could triple (OUR) numbers in as many weeks. PANEL 5: Close up on the CONSTRUCT as it continues. CONSTRUCT: Once built, (we) could then reactivate the entire fleet in short order. (You’d) have 80 to 100 dionychas with which to attack Tierra. PANEL 6: Close up on THE CENTER as he considers. CENTER: GENIUS! Pause our march! Find this (construct) (his) asteroid! And reward (his) creativity with the finest selection of (meats)! PANEL 7: The HUNTER and THE CENTER in silhouette. HUNTER: But (lord), a (construct) could not eat the— CENTER: Take the (meats) from all the senior (hunters) (who) did not come to (me) with such brilliance! PANEL 8: The HUNTER cowers in the shadow of THE CENTER as THE CENTER looms over him. HUNTER: F-from the (hunters), or FROM the (hunters)? CENTER: Yes. —— Want to read the full story?
