Science caps... (Score: 0)

Love this comic, but yelling at the hull-plating may not be as futile as might initially seem before we put on our science caps.

By yelling at the hull-plating, one might cause a sympathetic vibration to occur in that plating. Current surveillance technology exists where lasers are directed at plate-glass windows, and the wobbling of reflections are turned into audio to allow detection of conversations in interior rooms. This system is not dependent upon a transmission medium (air) between observer & observed. Actual fidelity of signal should be improved by the vacuum of space. Downsides are distance involved in stellar battle, as well as other vibrational signals in the observed ship (drive systems, etc.) overwhelming conversational vibrations in a probably rigid hull plating, though I have always imagined that Nosh could create a bellow of mythic proportions.

Are there any holes in my science cap?
