Nosh mentioned the Veetans have been spacefaring for hundreds of years before the humans "invented" (reverse engineered) the Drive.

The Continuum of Makers seems to take a VERY poor view of anyone else using their Drive tech - so what were the Veetans using as an FTL drive? It doesn't seem likely that a race as short lived as the Veetans were puttering about at sub light speeds, but if the Veetans had their own FTL tech, La Familia would't be able to hold a monopoly of space travel, would they?

Nope, the Veetans puttered around in-system (and just slightly beyond) before the humans came along. Any aliens that the Veetans met, they met near Veeta.

The drive is the one form of FTL technology in the galaxy.

I can see how you thought they had FTL, though! That's not an impossible assumption at all.
