The site looks great Dave! But there is very little contrast between text and background when posting comments, FYI. Signed, the 1st Lonely Goatherd ;)
Welcome!

I gotta tell you...this feels good. It feels right. DRIVE was a project I had wanted to start for years...and you guys were very kind to let me get a runnin' start with it at Sheldon on Saturdays. But it deserves its own site. It needs its own site. And now it's got one!
Tyler Martin of MindFaucet did a lovely job designin' it, and my awesome host and tech guru Phillip at Dumbrella Hosting worked wonders implementing it into his architecture. I can't thank those two enough.
In answer to some of the questions I'm already gettin' about the new site....:
1.) Will DRIVE still appear on Sheldon on Saturdays?
For the time being, yes. At least for a few more weeks, to help folks transition over who'll miss this announcement. Longer term....I honestly haven't made up my mind.
2.) Will DRIVE update on Saturdays at the new site?
It'll get moved to Wednesdays, probably.
3.) Will there be more than one DRIVE per week?
This is something I'd *love* to do, but time is a big factor, here. Know that I really want to...but am just not sure if I can, yet. DRIVE got started, and continues, as a labor of love more than anything else...so I find time for it whenever I can.
4.) Is this DRIVE site the secret creative project you mentioned, a long time ago?
No, that's somethin' else. Somethin' I haven't talked about, yet. (...not out of mystery, mind you: I've just learned that creative projects that get talked about, aren't creative projects that get finished.)
5.) If I notice abug in the new DRIVE site, how do I tell you?
Any bug reports are welcome via e-mail or forum comments -- with huge thanks! As with any new site, there'll be some hiccups as we go, but that'll all get ironed out in the next week or two.
6.) Does my "Sheldon" user account work here??
Yes! You can log into the forum just like you would over at Sheldon, easy-peasy. And, if you wanted to sign your user account up to receive the DRIVE strips in your e-mail inbox, as you do with SHELDON, just do this:
- Log in to the DRIVE site, here
- Then, go to your account info, here, and click the little-little box indicating you'd like to receive "stuff" from DRIVE. (We've made that term un-helpfully un-specific.)
More questions? Bugs you've spotted in the site? Ask 'em below!
Yep, that'd be the CSS that needs fiddlin'. There are a few other spots where text colors or backgrounds need adjusting, as well.
Thank you! Keep the feedback comin'!
The RSS link at the top right is broken.
Niiiiiiiice work :)
Looks great! Glad I have two emails, though. Won't let me use my Sheldon info to sign up. A bit confusing, but I'll live...
Site looks great, Dave. Just a few minor things I've noticed so far. There's a typo on the 'cast' page - "press-ganged into a uniqe mission". It'd be good to have the 'next comic' arrow faded out or something when you're at the most recent comic. I had to click on it to be sure I was at the end. It looks like the 'register/login' link at the bottom of the thread (when one isn't logged in), only goes to the 'register' page. I don't see a way to log in from there, but the 'login' link at the top left works. Also, the text for the 'post anonymously' checkbox is white text on a white background.
@nanitadequatro:
I just logged in with my Sheldon info, and it worked. Dave, it might be good to add a note that a login from the Sheldon site will work here.
Great job with the comic so far. I'm looking forward to wherever the story goes in the future.
Congratz on the new site Dave.
Looks very spacey but with that Kellet charm.
Is there anyway to add in the ability to sign up to recieve the Drive Comic on the same email I get Sheldon on? Like maybe a selection form of comics I want to recieve in my profile manager?
Would be cool. If not no worries.
-Ryan
Congratulações Senhor Kellet!
It's a great site :) love it!
I'd rather to have the star background fixed just for an aestethic preference of my part, but nothing that I can't get used to!
Anyways, I wish you many successes on this landmark of your career!
Congrats Dave it looks very nice, and very thematic to the comic. I also think the next arrow needs to have something done with it on the final current page, as I too tried to keep clicking on it. That is a seriously small niggle though, I am buckling up my seat belt for the adventures that await. :)
On the registration page, I initially tried to create an account identical to what is on the Sheldon site. When I realized that it wouldn't let me do that because I could apparently use the same account, and it had a "login" link on the registration page, I tried clicking on it. Nothing happened. After numerous navigations around the site, I finally managed to find where/how to login. And now I'm posting to tell you all about it :P
I'm glad that Drive has its own site now. LOVE the extras! The animation was awesome (I can see how even you would get excited about it, Dave!). Took me a little while to realize that my Sheldon login would work in this Universe, so that bug with the site was the nut behind the wheel! =)
Wow! Just, wow.
Just found your comic thanks to a link Zach Weiner posted on his SMBC site. Started at the beginning and zipped through them all in one sitting. I'm really liking it and looking forward to a long and funny adventure 'cause I plan to be here every week.
Thanks, and keep 'em coming!
Marty
very nice site! congrats Mister Kellet!
only thing is that as I'm writing this, I can't read the words "Name", "Title", "Comment" and so on... Because they're white on light grey.
But all in all, very cool site!
Felicidades!! Yay!!
So excited that it's moving to it's own site & that site looks GOOD! (It does carry well into the theme of the strip itself.)
May it continue to blossom just as Sheldon has. Thanks for all of your hard work.
(No other issues noted except for what akdollface & MIB4u mentioned.)
I was just linked here from Zach Weiner's SMBC, and I have to say, I really rather enjoyed perusing the archives, once I recovered from the aneurysm I initially suffered when seeing that a ship was slowing down in space. The explanation for -why- helped a lot, so that I could enjoy the rest of it, and your wonderful character designs.
Dave - I noticed a bug in the site. There is no space between a and bug in question #5. It looks like "abug". I had to....it's right there....hahaha.
I found another bug... Or rather, it's not so much a bug as missing content. I clicked on the link of "You must have +1 karma to start a new discussion" to learn more about karma, which, sadly, I did not find. I did find, however, my user stats page. And I saw this information posted there: "You most likely are not so interested in yourself, and probably would be more interested in the User Preferences, Change Password and Forum Options links you see to the left, where you can customize your experience, change your password, or just click pretty widgets to kill time." However, the only link I saw on my left was an un-clickable tab called "User Options." But I wanted to click pretty widgets to kill time!!!
I noticed that too; seems like on the normal forums page, there's the list of links... but on the User Stat page, there simply aren't any links.
I'm sure that's just a tweaking for some template magic... depending on the forum software in use.
Also, I admit I only skimmed through the messages, but I didn't see anyone mention the issue with 'reply' and 'profile' being too close together (looking more like 'replyprofile' than 'reply profile')

What if we promised to purchase zillions of "Drive" coffee mugs, hoodies and books? Would that change things? (Personally, I love an extra large Skitter Mug. But I'd settle for a Maker Mug.)
